On February 7, a number of Vietnamese rice exporting businesses expressed surprise at the domestic price of Vietnamese rice as well as the export price.
Talking with Tuoi Tre Online, Mr. Pham Thai Binh, general director of Trung An High-tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company (Can Tho), said that the current price of fresh rice is too high.
“Yesterday it was 6,700 VND/kg, today it’s 7,000 VND/kg if bought fresh from the field. Fresh rice bought for export to Europe is 7,300 VND/kg. Farmers are in the harvest season but know that countries are We need to reserve food, and with that momentum, the price of fresh rice will increase. People are excited, and export businesses will have a little difficulty because the price of rice has increased, but not as high as the price of rice,” Mr. Binh said.
Mr. Binh said he had orders for 5% broken rice and 25% broken rice at prices of 485 USD/ton and 495 USD/ton, respectively, an increase of 15 USD/ton compared to the end of 2022. But now the export price to Europe suddenly increased to 1,250 USD/ton.
“I am exporting orders to Europe for up to 1,250 USD/ton for fragrant rice ST24, ST25. In addition, other fragrant rice is 925 USD/ton and 800 USD/ton. Among the many reasons why rice prices increase, important especially the broken food situation in many countries and climate change. Although Vietnam is also experiencing climate change, the rice industry still has an advantage and is developing,” Mr. Binh said.
